Your home’s roof is a roofing system and work’s not only to insulate your home from weather, it works along with your gutter system in diverting water away from your home. A roof that is not properly installed and ventilated defeats the main purpose of your roof. The end result could lead to premature roof replacement.

THE KEY ELEMENT’S OF YOUR ROOF

The base of any roof is the roof decking (the plywood or lumber) that your roof is nailed to and a new roof replacement should be taken down to the roof decking for proper roof inspection. Any rotten or damaged decking needs to be replaced. With solid decking installed your shingles will have something to attach to and remain intact.

Drip edge is then installed at the edges of the new roof to prevent water from getting under newly installed roofing materials.

With the drip edge installed, we then install a special adhering roofing underlayment to guard against leaks and prevent ice dams in valleys and at eave and rake edges.

Roofing felt is then applied and it’s purpose is to provide an extra layer of protection between your roofing shingles and roof deck and to prevent shingles from sticking to the deck.

Once the base is complete, the installation of your shingle selection is ready to begin. This process includes the installation of starter strip shingles, ridge cap shingles at hips and ridges, and an attic ventilation system when appropriate.
